On our cross-country trip in 2007, we stopped at  Joseph’s Coat, a yarn shop in Missoula, Montana. The business card shows a picture of a mitten made in 1780 by Miss Margaret Evans, a woman blind from birth who learned to knit by counting. These words are knitted in the fabric of the mitten:

yours if others have a share
learn to be contented
then may your troubles cease
and you will live in peace
for with a contented mind
you will have a continual feast.

1Timothy 6:6-8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Proverbs 15:15-16 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
