Proverbs 1:1-5
 
The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 

Know 
Be aware of through observation, inquiry, or information.
Have knowledge or information concerning.
To regard as true beyond doubt

Perceive
Become aware or conscious of (something); come to realize or understand. aware of (something) by the use of one of the senses, esp. that of sight.

Receive
To take or acquire (something given, offered, or transmitted); get. 
To hear or see

Give
Freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone); hand over to: 

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7  

Thus is the purpose of the Proverbs and the whole Word of God
