“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed
by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did.
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore.
Dream.”
Mark Twain (1835-1910)

Hebrews 11:8, 6

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. KJV

I have been looking at a few mountains in my life.
I’m encouraged that I don’t have to face the mountains
alone and that faith the size of a mustard seed is available.
I wish I could hand each of you a mustard seed. God doesn’t
expect a lot from us, He just expects enough.

Refusing to Accept Failure
Sir Edmund Hillary was the first man to climb Mount Everest . On May 29, 1953 he scaled the highest mountain then known to man-29,000 feet straight up. He was knighted for his efforts. He even made American Express card commercials because of it! However, until we read his book, High Adventure, we don’t under stand that Hillary had to grow into this success. You see, in 1952 he attempted to climb Mount Everest , but failed. A few weeks later a group in England asked him to address its members. Hillary walked on stage to a thunderous applause. The audience was recognizing an attempt at greatness, but Edmund Hillary saw himself as a failure. He moved away from the microphone and walked to the edge of the platform. He made a fist and pointed at a picture of the mountain. He said in a loud voice, ” Mount Everest , you beat me the first time, but I’ll beat you the next time because you’ve grown all you are going to grow…but I’m still growing!” – Brian Cavanaugh, T.O.R. “The Sower’s Seeds”

Luke 17:6 – And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed,ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Matthew 21:21-22 – Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Mark 9:23-24 – Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Faint not
II Corinthians 4:16

One day a naturalist, out in his garden, observed a most unusually large and beautiful butterfly, fluttering as though in great distress; it seemed to be caught as though it could not release itself. The naturalist, thinking to  release the precious thing, took hold of the wings and set it free. It flew but a few feet and fell to the ground dead

He picked up the poor thing, took it into his laboratory and put it under a magnifying glass to discover the cause of its death. there he found the life blood flowing from the tiny arteries of its wings. Nature has fastened it to its chrysalis and was allowing it to flutter and flutter so that its wings might grow strong. It was the muscle-developing process that nature was giving the dear thing so that it might have an unusual range among the flowers and gardens. If it had only fluttered long enough the butterfly would have come forth ready for the wide range; but release ended the beautiful dream.

So with God’s children: how the Father wishes for them wide ranges in experience and truth. He permits us to be fastened to some form of struggle. We would dear ourselves free.  We cry out in our distress and sometimes think Him cruel that He does not release us. He permits us to flutter and flutter on. Struggle seems to be His program sometimes.

Prayer alone will hold us steady while in the struggles; so we keep sweet and learn, oh, such wonderful lessons.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Trust God for your day …Today

Last week I woke up with this song on my heart.

Teach me Lord to Wait – Gold City

Teach me, Lord, to wait down on my knees
‘Til in your own good time, you answer my pleas
Teach me not to rely on what others may do
But to wait in prayer for an answer from you

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength
They shall mount up with wings as eagles
They shall run and not grow weary
They shall walk and not faint
Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait

And teach me, Lord to wait while my heart’s all aflame
Let me humble my pride and call on your name
Keep my faith renewed, my eyes only on Thee
And let me be on this earth what you want me to be

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength
They shall mount up with wings as eagles
They shall run and not grow weary
They shall walk and not faint
Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait

Since then, I have been meditaing in waiting on God. Especially in these times when I feel so needy, that nothing is happening as I have planed or hoped. And when it feels like there is no end in sight. It was a good and needful reminder to wait on God and his promises.

In Isaiah 40 we find the inspiration for parts of this song.

28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

It is God’s strength that gets us through the day while we wait on him. His promises are sure. In verse 26 we find teh assurance that not one of his promises will fail, but that we can look to the one that created all things, us included.

Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

It is my desire to learn, so Teach me Lord to wait.

It’s so good to wake up with good song on your heart. This morning it was I Can Trust Jesus. I am thankful for the reassurance we can have that Jesus is trustworthy.

I Can Trust Jesus

God picked up a sparrow that could no longer fly.
He brushed off it’s wonds and then watched it soar into the sky
If he’s mindful of creation on this I can depend
I am his child and i can place all my trust in him

I can trust Jesus, I can trust Jesus
He never once has failed to meet my needs.
He is my strong tower.
The strength in my weakest hour
I can trust Jesus, He takes care of me

I have prayed some prayers thought they never were heard
But i held to God’s hand and kept right on trusting in his word
My wants and God’s desires don’t always agree
But I lean on his will for he always knows whats best for me

I can trust Jesus, I can trust Jesus
He never once has failed to meet my needs.
He is my strong tower.
The strength in my weakest hour
I can trust Jesus, He takes care of me

I am so thankful for those that can write what is in my heart.
