Each of us is different. We all have talents that are specific to us. As saints, we can and must have diversities among us. But in all of our differences, our spirit or what motivates us must be the same.

1 Corinthians 12

1. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9. To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10. To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11. But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

12. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14. For the body is not one member, but many.

Just as diversities in gifts is important, so are we all important to the body. What is your gift? What are you bringing in order to edify the body?

I have been thinking a lot about life, the plans we make, and the paths we take. Who directs those? What is our motivation? What gives us direction? Here are the scriptures and thoughts I came up with.

In Bible study this last week our lesson was on this topic and this scripture stood out to me. Proverbs 16:9 KJV “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” In my personal study I read the previous verses in both the King James Version and the Amplified. The Amplified reads as follows starting in verse 1:

The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord comes the [wise] answer of the tongue. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits – the thoughts and intents of the heart. Roll your works upon the Lord – commit and trust them wholly to Him; [He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed. (I stopped at this thought of God causing our thoughts become agreeable to his will. This is highly important for our plans to succeed. If our motivation and desire is to do God’s will, he will turn our thoughts so they accept and follow his perfect plan.) … When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Better is a little with righteousness – uprightness in every area and human relation and right standing with God – than great revenues with injustice. A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

There was a reference over to Psalms 37:23-24:

The steps of a [good] man are directed and established of the Lord, when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step]. Though he fall, he shall nor be utterly cast down, for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him. Amplified

I was so encouraged by this, that if our motivation and desire is to seek and follow God’s will for our life, he will direct and guide us. But not only that, when we step ahead of him and fall, he doesn’t leave us on the ground saying it is our fault, he helps us to get back on our feet, dusts us off, and gets us going on the path that we needed to be on.

Seek God for direction in your life and be determined to follow his lead where ever it may take you.
